# Event Start

Marks the entry point for flows used by Event to Flow and Cron to Flow agents.

Use Event Start in flows that are executed by [Event to Flow](/documentation-and-resources/components-and-data/agents/types-of-agents/event-to-flow.md) and [Cron to Flow](/documentation-and-resources/components-and-data/agents/types-of-agents/cron-to-flow.md) agents. A single flow can contain more than one Event Start node, and the agent configuration selects which entry point to use. The `Condition` field is only evaluated for Event to Flow agents.

## Config

* **Name** - optional display name for the node in the editor
* **Condition** - optional JSONata expression used when an Event to Flow agent needs to choose among multiple Event Start nodes in the same flow. Cron to Flow agents do not use this field.

## Output

Downstream nodes should read the event payload from `msg.event`.

Flows used by Event to Flow and Cron to Flow agents should terminate on one or more [Event End](/documentation-and-resources/components-and-data/flows/node-reference/event/event-end.md) or [Event Error](/documentation-and-resources/components-and-data/flows/node-reference/event/event-error.md) nodes so the runtime can resolve the execution cleanly.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.contextual.io/documentation-and-resources/components-and-data/flows/node-reference/event/event-start.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
